Pool Leak Detection in the Algarve
Just Pools Algarve is the only company in Portugal with electronic pool leak detection equipment. We pinpoint leaks in the pipework, the fittings and the pool structure itself, with a 99% success rate, and the pool stays full from start to finish.
We find the leak; we do not repair it. After the survey you know exactly where the problem is, and the builder or plumber of your choice can go straight to it.
How do you find a pool leak without draining the pool?
With electronic listening and pressure equipment that locates the exact point where water is escaping while the pool is still full. In a single visit we test the underground pipework, the fittings and the structure, with no digging and nothing broken open. At the end, you know where the leak is and what is causing it.
Electronic detection compared with the traditional method
The traditional approach relies on pressure testing. A pressure test tells you there is a leak somewhere in the system, but not where. Finding the source usually means draining the pool, opening up pipework or digging by elimination, which takes days and adds to the bill.
Electronic detection goes straight to the source. Instead of a suspect area, you get a specific point in the pipework or the structure. Because the pool is not drained, the water is saved too, and in a region with recurring water restrictions that matters as much as the time.
What we test in a single visit
The survey covers the whole system: skimmer seams, lights, main drains, the pool structure, and the underground pipework and fittings. Everything is done on the same visit, and before we leave you know what we found.
Signs your pool may be leaking
The most common sign is a water level that drops faster than evaporation can explain. In summer an uncovered pool can lose several centimetres a week to evaporation alone, so a leak is not always obvious at first.
Damp patches around the pool are another clue, and so is a water bill that has crept up for no clear reason. If topping up has become part of the weekly routine, it is worth looking into.
For owners who spend part of the year away, a leak can run for weeks before anyone notices. The bucket test is a simple way to tell evaporation from a leak in an afternoon, and our guide on how to tell if your pool is leaking explains how to do it.
Who repairs the leak?
We locate the leak and tell you exactly where it is. The repair itself is not work we carry out, and we would rather say so now than have anyone call us expecting otherwise.
What you receive is a precise diagnosis: where the leak is, what is causing it and what kind of work will be needed. With that in hand, your builder or plumber opens up only where they need to, and nobody is paid to search for something that has already been found.
When a leak points to a bigger problem
Sometimes a leak is a symptom of something else, such as pipework at the end of its life or a surface worn out after many summers. In those cases the conversation turns to pool refurbishment, carried out with the pool out of service, and we can quote for that work.
Once the leak has been dealt with, INDYGO Pool Level helps you spot early if the pool starts losing water again. It tops up in controlled amounts and shows the pool's consumption in an app, so unusual use shows up within days, even when you are not there.
Where we carry out surveys
We carry out leak detection surveys throughout the Algarve and have worked with pools in the region since 2008.
Frequently asked questions
Does leak detection involve breaking or digging anything?
No. Nothing is opened up or dug during the survey, and the pool stays full. Any opening-up comes afterwards, only at the point the diagnosis identifies, and that work is for your builder.
Can you find leaks in underground pipework?
Yes. Buried pipework and fittings are part of every survey, and they are exactly the part of the system that the traditional method has to dig up to investigate.
Can I use the report to get repair quotes?
You can, and that is what it is for. Because it shows where the leak is and what is causing it, any builder can price the repair without exploratory digging, which also makes quotes easier to compare.
When should I book a survey?
As soon as the bucket test shows more loss than evaporation explains. Waiting rarely pays: every week means thousands of litres, and escaping water can wash soil out from under the paving around the pool.
What if the pool needs more than one repair?
It happens in older pools, particularly where the pipework or the surface has reached the end of its life. The survey shows the condition of the system, and that is what tells you whether repairing the leak is enough or whether refurbishment makes more sense.
