Overflow Grills in the Algarve

Overflow Grills in the Algarve

Just Pools supplies and installs overflow grills for pools and hot tubs across the Algarve. The grill is the strip that covers the gulley running around an overflow or infinity pool, and it does more work than its appearance suggests. It carries foot traffic, keeps debris out of the channel, and sets the line that frames the whole pool.

We measure, cut and fit grills to the pool in front of us, whether that is a new overflow pool being built or an older one where the grills have gone brittle in the sun.

When grills need replacing

Overflow grills live in the harshest spot on the pool: full sun, constant water, chlorine or salt, and people walking on them all summer. Over time the effects show.

The usual signs are colour fading to a chalky white, sections that flex or crack underfoot, and pieces that no longer clip down and lift when someone steps on the edge. Any of those is worth dealing with promptly. A loose or broken grill is a trip hazard at the exact point where people walk barefoot on a wet surface, and debris that gets past a damaged grill ends up in the balance tank and the filtration.

Replacing a full run of grills is straightforward work and transforms how a tired pool looks, often more than any other single change of a similar cost.

Choosing grills for your pool

Grills come in different widths, profiles and fixing systems, and the right choice depends on the gulley you already have.

Width is set by the channel itself and is measured on site. Straight runs are simple; curved pools need grills that follow the radius, which is a question of choosing the right system rather than forcing a straight product around a bend. Corners, steps and the entry point of the pool all need their own pieces cut to fit.

Colour matters more than people expect. White is the most common and keeps the classic look. Sand, grey and stone tones sit more quietly against natural stone surrounds, which is the finish we see most often on Algarve villas. We bring samples so you can see them against your own coping in daylight before deciding.

03

How we fit them

We start by measuring the gulley along its full length, because channels are rarely perfectly consistent from one end of a pool to the other. We then cut each section to fit, including the corners and any awkward transitions, and fix them so they sit flush with the surround and stay put.

For a replacement on an existing pool, the work is usually done in a day or two depending on the size of the pool, and the pool does not need to be emptied. On a new build we coordinate with the builder so the grills go in at the right stage.
