Pool LED Lighting in the Algarve
We supply and install LED pool lighting across the Algarve, in new pools and in pools that have been running on halogen for years. Lighting is usually the least expensive change an owner can make to a pool, and the one that changes how the pool feels after dark.
LED units draw a fraction of the energy of halogen lamps and last far longer between replacements. Beyond the running cost, they give you control: a clean white light for evening swimming, softer tones for dinner outside, or slow colour changes when the pool is the centre of the evening. All of it from a remote or a wall switch.
Why owners change to LED
Halogen pool lamps burn out. In a pool used through an Algarve summer, that can mean replacing lamps every season or two, each time with the cost of the lamp and the visit to fit it. A quality LED unit runs for years in the same position.
The energy difference is just as plain. A halogen pool lamp typically draws around 300 watts. An LED unit producing comparable light draws closer to 30. For pools lit most evenings between May and October, that difference shows up on the bill.
There is also the light itself. Halogen gives you one colour and one brightness. LED gives you both to choose from, which matters more than it sounds when the pool is part of an outdoor space people actually use in the evening.
Replacing halogen lights
Most pools can move from halogen to LED without any building work. In the majority of installations the existing niche and cabling stay exactly where they are, and only the lamp unit is changed. We check the niche, the transformer and the cable run first, then recommend units that fit what is already in the pool.
The work is usually done in a single visit, and in most cases without emptying the pool. Where an installation is older and the wiring or transformer is no longer up to standard, we say so and quote the electrical work separately, so you can decide what to do with a clear picture of the cost.
If the pool is already due for other work, lighting is worth doing at the same time. The access is open and the disruption is shared. That is a matter of timing rather than a reason to take on a larger project.
Choosing the right lighting for your pool
Pool size and shape decide how many units you need and where they go. A small courtyard pool is usually well served by a single well-placed unit. A longer pool, or one with a curved wall or a wide shallow end, lights more evenly with two or more.
We also look at how the pool is used. A pool that is mostly swum in during the day needs less than one that is the backdrop to evening entertaining. Colour changing units cost more than fixed white, and are worth it for some owners and not for others. We will tell you which of the two we think fits how you use the pool.
